Postpartum Depression

Postpartum Depression

Postpartum depression shows more severe symptoms than the “baby blues”. In a few, postpartum depression usually develops within the first year after the child is born. Either of the parents can experience it. Postpartum depression or anxiety is usually distinguished from the common mood swings that parents have after the child’s birth by looking for signs of excessive worry, sadness, hopelessness, or other challenging thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Postpartum depression is treatable when the individual is encouraged to take care of themselves and therapy is a great way to do that.

Therapy provides the following and much more:

  • The support needed for a new parent
  • A compassionate and non-judgmental space to explore one’s difficult emotions, thoughts, and behaviors
  • Tools and techniques to better understand and manage these symptoms
  • A safe place to explore the worry and stress of being a new parent and ways to make this transition smoother
